About Us
The San Diego Temple was the third temple built in California. The project architect and the interior design architect were actually Roman Catholic. On December 23, 1991, the 186th anniversary of Prophet Joseph Smith's birthday, once the statue of Moroni was installed, a floock of birds circled the statue about three times before continuing their course.
President Gordon B. Hinkley was assigned to dedicate the temple. Almost 50,000 people attended the 22 sessions held. Over 720,000 visitors came to the public open house, and it was later honored as Headliner of the Year for 1993 in the landmark category of the San Diego Press Club.
