History of the Idaho Falls Idaho Temple

The Idaho Falls temple was the first temple to be built in Idaho. It also was the first to be designed with a central spire. When the land was being excavated for the temple, it was discovered that there was solid lava rock beneath it.

The design of this temple was inspired by a vision of an ancient Nephite temple by the architect John Fetzer, Sr. The completion of this temple was considered the fufillment of a prophesy made by Elder Wilford Woodruff in 1884. President George Albert Smith dedicated it, and it remains to be the only one that was dedicated by him.
