History of the Salt Lake Temple
It was the fourth temple built in Utah, but the first in the Salt Lake Valley. It took 40 years to build, though the highly ornate interior was built in just one. During its construction, two other temples were built and finished.
After its completion, President Wilford Woodruff dedicated it, and it remains to be the only one that was dedicated by him. This temple was also dedicated 3 years before Utah became a state in 1896. As of 2019, this temple is the largest (most square footage) temple of the Church.
